DANCING IN THORNS - REAL RELATIONSHIPS IN THIS BOOK
Mark - Southern California   (3/9/2006)

It is easy to care about and identify with Cathy, the main character, and from there you are drawn, as an innocent, into a shadowy world of organized crime and the underbelly of the entertainment industry. All this comes without gratuitous sex and violence. There are real relationships in this book, and the love interest adds stimulation without being cheap. This exciting mix swirls you along to a surprising, yet satisfying ending. Mark Alexander, High School teacher and former research assistant for Robin Moore, author of The Green Berets and The French Connection.

SUSPENSE AND MYSTERY VERY WELL HANDLED!
Inesita - California, USA   (2/18/2006)

I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, Dancing in Thorns by Patrice L. Barrie and Pat Welles. It was exciting reading. The background of theatrical locations in New York was an attraction to me as a dancer, being familiar with that aspect of show business. The suspense and mystery was very well handled in my opinion. Congratulations to both authors! Inesita

DELIGHTFUL & UNPREDICTABLE!
Maggie - California, USA   (1/2/2006)

It is rare to have read a book where I am identifying so totally with the time, place and character of the story, but that is what happened when I read this multi-faceted novel. I had no idea what to expect as I followed Cathy's story, yet it was a familiar experience for me. I could relate to every impression of the East Coast club circuit for the struggling artist living in the '60's. I felt Cathy and I were as much aquatinted and chatty as she was with Chickie and Daneeka and Julian. I was very curious about Cathy's perceptions which brought me into a mutli-dimensional world of intrigue. I enjoyed the writers' ability to capture the language and cliches of the time period so effortlessly. Any person, in just about any culture, who enjoys reading, would find this story compelling. I found this a delightful, unpredictable, engrossing story with a great ending. Thank you, to the writer's, Patrice L. Barrie and Pat Welles, for a wonderful read. Maggie

WORTH THE READ
David - California, USA   (11/3/2005)

Loved the book and the characters. Readers are rewarded with a mystery that keeps them wondering what's going to happen next. The ending is very exciting. Don't tell your friends and spoil it for them. Let them read the book and find out for themselves. Best of luck to these two talented authors. David Dominguez. What a 'fast read'! Just finished reading Dancing in Thorns, and found it exciting and informative about Niteclubs of the 60's. I felt like I was actually living their lives! It was also great to take a peek in the psychic world. So compelling that it's one of those books you don't want to put down! My congratulations to Patrice L. Barrie and Pat Welles for this incredible novel. I think it would make a great film, or a TV mini-series. Best Wishes, Julie Shelton-Berg.

A fun read!

Martin Clark -   (7/14/2005)

This is an amazingly compelling little page-turner. The chapters are short and the plot moves along quickly. It's VERY hard to put down. As a working member in the entertainment industry, I found the story completely believable and reminiscent of some of my own experiences as I was struggling to "arrive." This is an interesting accounting of big fish/little fish; the dichotomy of sensitivity and brutality among the powerful. Of risk taking and success. I didn't want it to end!

A good read!

Ilene B. Slavick - California, USA  (6/20/2005)

The characters are what make this story good and move the story along. Because the main character, Cathy, is so well drawn, it is possible to believe that an innocent nightclub dancer from a small town would get drawn into risky situations with people that most of us couldn't have imagined. Some of the experiences, such as the nightclub job where she shared a room with two lesbian strippers, and the blind date with the handsome Mafioso, are written so well that you know they could have happened.

It was such a good read that I read it in one sitting.

Just finished reading, Dancing In Thorns. From the First page to the Last I could not put this book down. Never a dull or boring moment. You feel you know the people and live there lives and moments. This was one of the BEST books I've read in a long time, I was sad to see it end. I loved it so much, I hope there will be a sequel. It would make a great HBO movie or just a movie. This book is a MUST READ!

Dancing In Thorns
PAKA - California , USA   (6/2/2005)

This has T.V. mini-series (HBO?) written all over it! Great read for busy people. Loved the pace of it. Without getting bogged down in volumes of adjectives, you can really taste NYC in the sixties and the characters, and all the unexpected sub-plots develop quickly. I read it in one non-stop sitting and felt like I had been to a good movie.

“Dancing In Thorns” takes you inside the world of east coast night clubs during the early 1960s to experience vividly the mafia men who owned them, the dancers and comedians who performed in them, and the hopes of one young dancer thrust straight into this from the Midwest. The story’s metaphysical twist is authors Barrie’s and Welles’s distinct literary mark.
